Some umbrellas are paired with umbrella bases. Whether or not you get an umbrella with a base look for the perfect place to place the base. Find a flat spot where you have plenty of room.

If you shop for umbrella bases separately from umbrellas balance the size of the umbrella with the base. You don't want a base that will stand out too much and overshadow the umbrella. By the same token, a base that is just the right size and not too small can add weight and gravity to your decor.

When shopping for umbrella bases look for a heavy-duty base that has been weighted with water or cement. This will make installing the patio umbrella easy. All you have to do is place it down and fill it. If you do choose a flat iron base double-check to make sure it has the same measurements as your pole. Umbrella bases can be purchased online, at retail stores, hardware stores, and boutiques.
